Under 9s sign off for the season with another win...

Report supplied by Adam Carty

Bashley B Und 9s vs Totton & Eling Und 9s

Friday 9th July. 6.30pm

Bashley/Rydall CC

T&E; Taylor, Dibben, Sanders, Laughland, R. Carty, Clark, L Carty, Alp.

Totton & Eling Under 9s signed off from their 2010 league campaign with a hectic 2 run victory away at Bashley B. T&E batted first virtue of a gesture of fair play from the home team to allow time for T&E's Jude Alp to arrive following a sight seeing tour of East Dorset. Taylor & Dibben opened up for T&E and sound of leather on willow was soon echoing around the nursery ground. Taylor batted superbly once more and RD offered sound support. Debutant on the night Luke Sanders batted with fine technique and he and Alfie L kept the scoreboard ticking as did the partnership of young Ryan Carty and Matty Clark. The final pair of the innings, Liam Carty and Jude Alp played some really nice cricket shots and with that ran with confidence. T&E total closed at (2)58. Bashley/Rydall chased the 258 total with some caution amidst a mixed bag of T&E bowling. T&E's bowlers kept the host's total down thanks to wickets from Taylor (bowled), L Carty (caught & bowled), J Alp (c&b) and the deadly accurate Matty Clark (2 bowled). With four overs to play Bashley still needed what seemed an unachievable total of 28 more runs. Yet the combination of extremely dangerous kwick cricket like running and Keystone Cop like fielding saw B/R come uncomfortably close to their 259 target. Amidst real confusion that on one occasion it was thought that the Bashley final pair attempted to score a run as the bowler made his way back to his run up neither team were totally aware of the winner having seen the final ball of the evening bowled... But once the dust had settled it was a very relieved T&E team that was given the marginal 2 run winning verdict by the very busy scorers. The fielding team were crying out for a helping of calm and composure especially in the final 4 overs yet upon watching the game from the middle it was evident that the gallant & energetic fielding team are still very much in the embryonic learning phase of their cricketing careers and if they cant make naive mistakes as 9 year olds when can they? And as the stumps were drawn there concluded the first league season for the mini Eels. Hugely enjoyable for all and far more triumphant than anyone could have expected in early April. Well done to one and all on achieving a (4-3) record and many thanks to Stuart & Mandy Knight for their resolute commitment to the boys and to all the hugely supportive and impeccably behaved parents and guardians.

Under 13's Win at home against Paultons.

Report supplied by Steve Cummings

Match report 17/06/10

After our confidence-boosting win against Wellow we were looking forward to the visit of our neighbours Paultons.

They batted first and soon were on the back foot with a lively spell from Dan and Matt each taking a wicket with the score only on 7,unfortunately these overs contained many extras which all though didn’t affect bowling figures they gave our rivals an impetus

And although Dan picked up his 2nd wicket with the score on 25,Paultons soon picked up runs and with us continuing to bowl some wild deliveries they soon passed the century and eventually finished on 110 for the loss of only 3 wickets…

A decent score but without our extras it would have been 68.

This meant that we had to perform again with the bat to stand a chance of winning

The 2 Ollie’s started again together and formed an impressive opening partnership with Ollie H retiring in no time on 31.

The arrival of Rory didn’t change much as he and Ollie M kept the runs ticking over.

Unfortunately when on 11 Rory decided to advance across his stumps and was bowled around his legs.

George was the next in and continuing his fine form he took the game to our visitors and quickly took the game away from them. The only blot in his copybook was when he creamed a straight drive into the bowlers hand and then on to the stumps leaving poor Ollie M stranded and was unluckily run out for 26,but Ollie can hold his head up with a superb and mature batting performance which many others should learn from.

Disappointingly Jack soon was out to a fine delivery and carried on his low scores since his 20odd against New M.

This was not a problem and aided with some wayward bowling we managed to reach the target with an over to spare with George on 17 and Dan on 4.

A great effort by our lads to recover from a poor bowling performance lets

Hope we get this right next week and continue this mini unbeaten streak.

 Steve.

Under 11's win against Redlynch & Hale

Report supplied by Mark Proudley

Totton & Eling Under 11's played host to Redlynch & Hale in their first home fixture of the season after a fine away win at Farley that saw a 9 run victory achieved after some excellent bowling with only 6 extras conceded.

Totton & Eling won the toss and Captain for the day Sam Woodcock invited Redlynch to bat. The opening assault on the Redlynch batsmen saw four quick wickets fall with Callum Dunham in superb form taking three, including the prized scalp of the Redlynch (and New Forest District) opener twice, the second time leaving him wondering why his stumps were in ruins behind him. The middle order Redlynch batsmen faired no better and wickets by Jack Proudley and Daniel Sampays further reduced the score with Redlynch striving to get back into the runs. The final bowling pair finished off any hope Redlynch had of posting a score with Molly Edmondson and Charlie Cummings taking a further five wickets with Molly taking two in two balls. Again the bowlers kept the extras to a minimum aided by some fine keeping by Ryan Warren who stopped everything that came his way either by hand or leg.

After a quick turn around due to the gathering rain clouds Totton & Eling went in to bat and started cautiously but were soon in trouble and a flurry of wickets fell to reduce the team to negative figures. The team were soon back in the game when Sam Woodcock, supported by George Brook-Baker, dispatched several balls straight in to the nicely cleared ditches that suround the pitch. The game was level and finely balanced when the final pairing of Molly and Charlie came in to bat. A patient knock of ten by Charlie saw Totton and Eling with a winning lead going in to the last over. With the accurate and pacy Redlynch bowler to face Charlie was under strict orders to see out the game and a stonewall defence by the left hander provided just what was needed. The ever adventurous Molly called for a quick single when Charlie played the ball to Gulley with three balls to go but was sent back with a firm 'no' only to be greeted by the Umpire (and manager) wearing a look of anguish and relief, with that the game was won.

Totton & Eling win by 10 runs.

Well done team.

Regards

Mark

TECC Indoor Team

The very successful 09/10 Winter Indoor Campaign came to an end in the SHICL Cup Final with a close defeat for TECC to a very strong Team Solent with much SEPCL experience.

Whilst reflecting in the Fleming Park bar of what may have been, bragging rights are in place for Luke (Bowling) and Banksy (Catches) with the early capture of the prize wickets of Team Solent's TECC 1st Teamers Shu and Dave.

The TECC team-  Banksy, Nigel Bungay, Luke Mooney, Ed Moore, Brett Merritt, Josh Metcalf and Josh Armstrong..

Thanks again to Simon Preston/Nick Edens/Rob Franklin/Sam Metcalf/Adam Knight and Sam Thorne for their cameo league appearances when required during the winter season, with a special mention for young Ollie Merritt for helping at short notice where he played his part with the bat taking our innings score to a challenging total and bowling superbly returning with figures of 1-18 from two overs against Sarisbury Stingrays.
