Totton & Eling vs. Bramshaw
Report supplied by Steve Cummings
Match report 20/05/10
After winning the toss Ollie decided to bowl first on what looked to be a belter of a track
However it was not only good to bowl on, It was flying of the bat from the Bramshaw openers and quickly their score approached 50.This was the first difficult spell Matt had faced since joining us and together with Callum they found it hard to contain the openers.
Bowling first change saw Ollie M come in to slow down the rate and in a terrific spell of containment bowling he took 4-1-10-0 which in the context of the game was superb.
He was well backed up by Dan who took a wicket in his first over and which his spell deserved more luck as the wides he gave away was due to the ball swinging other than bad bowling.
Steadily wickets fell and due to some great catches by Ben and Rory we restricted Bramshaw to 107-7.
With the return of the usual suspects at the top of the order we were confident of overhauling this score and without any time gone George and Ollie H were smashing it around the ground. Until from somewhere communication went out of the window and George had been run out .still plenty of batting to come and Jack after feeling his way found form and hit the shot of the day a back square cut all the way for 4 runs.
Unfortunately it was a repeat of a previous innings when jack got a good one and was bowled..
In the meantime Ollie M and Ollie H pushed the score on until again Ollie H had to retire on 32,Still we were well ahead of the rate, But as we edged closer to the total we started loosing wickets like a pack of cards falling.
Dan and Ben played good shots but when a stand was required they both fell in quick succession.
In came Rory but he wasn’t able to take the ball on today and Will and James came and went. Albeit not always their own fault with some dodgy calling
This left us with Callum and Matt trying to see us home, but Bramshaw started to realise they could win and pulled out all the stops with some accurate bowling.
Down to the last over and we required 6 to win and with a couple of wides it brought it down to 4.Matt then played for the team when he unselfishly ran himself out to Allow our best batsman today back in
Ollie entered the fray with the bit between his teeth and with 4 to win of 2 balls he was confident of doing it. But so did the Bramshaw bowling who bowled a beauty to take Ollie middle stump therefore ending this game with us scoring 104 4 runs short
However as I told the boys if we hadn’t conceded 40 extras again we would have won at a canter
