Under 9's win Again at home to Fawley
Report supplied by Adam Carty
Totton & Eling Under 9's vs Fawley Under 9's
Friday 25th June
T&E Sports Ground, Southern Gardens, Totton
Totton & Eling under 9's welcomed Fawley
to Southern Gardens for their 6th and penultimate game of the
league season. Having won at Pylewell Park seven days earlier
expectation was high from the boys to push on and go for their
first back to back win of the year. Fawley skipper won the toss
and invited skipper for the night Ethan Taylor's team to have a
bat. With the temperature approaching 80 degrees and with the
sun in total control of the sky concentration and focus was
going to be the key factor for both sides and again for the
second week running and against the better judgement of this
report writer, T&E applied themselves superbly and proved the
eventual winners by some margin. T&E amassed a team total of
(2)67 from their 16 alloted overs with that total only yielded
two dismissals from the four pairs! Of the pairs each came to
the crease with a different agenda yet all having the desired
affect; Mayer & Clark mixed aggression with control, Laughland &
Young took the game to Fawley with lusty blows and high risk yet
well rewarded running, Alp & Carty consolidated using steely
concentration and great technique whilst Taylor and Dibben mixed
business with pleasure and pushed the total along with real
assertion and with it played some outstanding cricket shots to
the delight of the large and merry T&E crowd. Taylor (18) and
Laughland (12) top scored with chief support coming from Mayer &
Dibben. Of the opposition, Fawley played some really good
cricket on the night and appeared a well drilled and excellently
conducted team. T&E defended 267 with real confidence
restricting Fawley to a final total of (2)17. Every player was
very keen to get into the game and with that everyone
contributed something positive to the 50 run win. Ryan Dibben
did a great job behind the stumps setting the standard for his
team mates with some tidy glove work and in complimenting Ryan's
work the outfielders really seemed fired up and alert.
Statistics from the excellent outfield performance showed 5 of
the 7 bowlers struck the stumps scoring a bowled dismissal and
of the 16 bowled overs only 9 extras were conceded, by far the
fewest amount of wides and no balls of the season. Wicket
takers on the night were Alp (2) Carty, Young, Taylor & Clark.
Well done to the mini Eels, with three wins from 6 games, the
Europa Cup could be a real target for next season, saving the
Champions League for the year after... :-)
