Under 9's win against New Milton

Friday 14th May / T&E Sports Club / 6.30pm Start

New Milton’s captain won the toss and invited T&E to bat. T&E’s opening pair of Taylor & Dibben got the home team off to a brisk start taking the total well past the (two hundred) 20 mark from the first four overs with the former member of the pair (ET) executing some swashbuckling straight drives that prompted the attentive home spectators to roar with approval. T&E’s middle order partnerships consolidated the good start with watchful defensive play and disciplined running between the wickets taking the score into the mid (2)40’s. T&E’s final pairing Molly Edmondson and Marshall “Calypso” Mather up the scoring rate nicely over the final four 6-balls demonstrating an entertaining exhibition of pinch hitting with “Calypso” really putting the Milton bowlers to the sword. T&E closed on a very respectable 268. Milton's innings saw momentum swing from fielders to batters with both teams demonstrated good technique and bold intention to win. Of the T&E bowlers who all once again contributed positively, albeit amidst a little to many wides, special notification goes to wicket takers Alp & Taylor and the most economical bowler on the night, Carty who yielded only 7 runs from three overs. The evening’s entertainment all boiled down to the final over with Milton needing only a handful of runs to take the spoils. "Captain Marvel" Molly Edmondson accepted the task of the dreaded final over and sent down 6 exceptional deliveries that were well negotiated by Milton’s final two batsmen who in turn found themselves having to take on a high risk last ball run to achieve a tie. Alas the run wasn’t to be as T&E’s cool headed skipper, fielded her own delivery and promptly made a short run to dislodge the bails with Milton’s facing batsman well short of his ground. T&E recorded their first win of the season with a 6 run victory…
